Contact your Senator and ask them to vote NO on HB 1935. Oklahoma families value strong public schools, but HB 1935 would undermine our public schools by offering massive income tax cuts to wealthy households for enrolling their children in private schools or homeschooling them.
- HB 1935 would reward wealthy households for pulling their children out of public schools by giving refundable tax credits of $7,500 for private school enrollment and $1,000 for homeschooling expenses to Oklahoma households earning up to $250,000.
- An earlier version of HB 1935 would cost the state $271 million in the first year, and costs will likely balloon quickly. Participation in a similar program in Arizona made costs increase significantly beyond initial expectations.
- HB 1935 will harm rural schools by incentivizing homeschooling and eroding public school enrollment in rural areas.
- Even with tax credits, the cost of a private school education in our state would be out of reach for everyday Oklahomans. HB 1935 exists primarily as yet another handout to wealthy Oklahomans.
We encourage Oklahoma advocates who care about having strong public schools in their community to use the Oklahoma Parent Legislative Action Committee tool linked below to contact your Senator.
